Meet some amazing young people who have big dreams!

rachel

Rachel, age 20

Life Wish: To work in theater productions

Rachel is animated and charming, and she loves entertaining. She speaks well, has a talent for singing, and is learning to play the piano. Rachel has a fascination for movie and play casting. In her free time she casts all her friends for their perfect roles. She has to stay for the credits after every movie, and can name the producers and directors of dozens of movies. Her wildest dream is to meet producer Kenny Ortega. Rachel hopes to be involved in theater and movie productions, and, on a more personal note, says she would like to serve others like Jesus Christ did.

ben

Ben, age 22

Life Wish: To learn to read better

Ben spends a lot of time with early reader books, and longs to read more advanced stories. While academics are hard for him, social life is not. He is a good friend and companion to everyone. Ben loves music and dancing, and isn’t shy about showing off his talent for rhythm. Ben’s older brothers are his heroes, and he enjoys playing tennis and basketball with them. Coupled with more opportunities for academic progress, Ben’s friendly nature will take him far.

wesley

Wesley, age 27

Life Wish: To work with automobiles

Wesley has one overriding dream: to meet Jeff Gordon! “Jeff is my man,” he says. “We’re close.” Wesley knows NASCAR stats like some people know baseball players. He is sure that he could help service and maintain cars for a living–a much better use of his talents than is the 1-hour-a-day janitorial job he currently holds. Wesley has the ability to do detailed, careful work for hours at a time, as evidenced by his hobby, coloring intricate geometric designs. He has exceptionally good communication skills, and is going to be a great asset to any employer.

emily

Emily, age 18

Life Wish: To work as a CNA in a hospital

Emily’s strengths are her uniquely graceful social skills, her academic abilities, and her talent for understanding the needs of others. She does struggle with clear speech, which will be her roadblock to success unless she receives the speech therapy she needs, but she is proof that with the right support, students with Down syndrome can learn far more than is expected–kind peer tutors and teachers are currently helping her succeed in her high school biology and algebra classes! Emily’s experiences with heart surgeries have led to a fascination with medical care, and she is passionate about her goal to be a certified nurse’s assistant.

Conner, age 18

Life Wish: To have his own apartment

Conner is tall and strong and is enthusiastic about all things adventurous: Indiana Jones, National Geographic, hiking, hunting, sharks, snakes, and wrestling. He loves science, particularly wildlife and rocketry. To his mother’s chagrin, Conner is also gifted in hacking through passwords and security blocks on computers. Conner’s family calls him a “work horse” for his ability to stay with hard physical work for a long time. It is fitting that he is interested in learning the construction trade, or possibly working in retail in one of his areas of interest. In the immediate future, though, Conner’s greatest dream is to live independently in his own apartment. He has even picked out the artwork to hang on his walls!

Ty, age 16

Life Wish: To be a barber

Ty has firmly chosen his vocation: to cut hair in his own “Ty’s Great Clips” barber shop. He can demonstrate his professional-looking cutting technique, and enjoys the shampooing and styling processes. He plans to practice his barbering skills by grooming animals, starting with his own dog, Kota. Ty is skilled at using electronic devices such as his Ipad, and has another unusual talent: he can name more Mario characters than anyone you know! Ty loves young children, loves snow, and is looking forward to taking his friend Abby to the upcoming high school prom.
